LITERATURE NIGHT 2011 - 16. April 2011

Based on the initiative of the Czech Centres a marathon of scenic readings of European literature took place for the first time in Budapest this year. The event was taking place with the support of the Delegation of the European Commission in Hungary and in partnership with fifteen European institutes (fourteen are members of EUNIC and the Swiss Embassy). The event took place according to the original platform from Prague on the 16^th of April – the concluding day of the traditional Spring Book Festival – performed by actors of the theatre ensemble TÁP SZÍNHÁZ as well as a part of the emerging alternative literature festival MARGÓ. The recommended route led from the residency of the Delegation of the European Commission, which sponsored the entire event as one of the top events during the Hungarian presidency of the European Union. Tramline number 6 connects all individual literature stopping points – from the Estonian representation located in a deserted property of the former Turkish bath to the Austrian representation in a luxurious coffee lounge New York. Composition by local Hungarian artists has been presented in one of tram’s carriages. The journey through nocturnal Budapest and European literatures wound up in a very much Czech way in a pub over a glass of beer, nevertheless very much un- Švejk-like, by a novel story of the Mašín brothers.
