LITERATURE NIGHT 2011

The Literature Night will be held in Moscow for the third time this year, however, for the first time in such an extent, which may address the mass Moscow audiences. Inspired by the organizers of the Prague Literary Night we have decided to draw attention to the qualities of the literary work of Bohumil Hrabal, which is not quite unknown to the Russian readers (two books of Hrabal have been already published in Russian), but in the field of translated literature does not, in our opinion, occupy the place it deserves. During the Moscow Literature Night we will try to evoke the atmosphere of the period, in which the Hrabal´s prose has originated – and try to embroil the audience into the period context. This intention should be supported beside others also by a presence of the Hrabal´s personal assistant Tom Mazal, who will present the visitors the unique “Hrabalian” documentary material, music performance of “Pepiček” Čečil, Hrabal´s favourite accordionist, and above all the very first Russian exhibition of the Hrabal´s friend and companion Vladimír Boudník.
The Literature Night in Moscow will be immediately followed by the Museum Night, a very popular event in Moscow, during which the Czech Centre, together with the Moscow Centre of Contemporary Art, will organize reconstructions of the Boudník´s street “explosionalistic” events. The program will be afterwards partly presented also in Nizhnyj Novgorod.
