Riga

In cooperation with the Latvian National Library, a long-term partner of the Czech Embassy, there will be the promotion of Czech culture and literature in Riga, Latvia. The Literature Night will offer the extracts from the work of Michal Viewegh, including  his debut novel Báječná léta pod psa (The Wonderful Years of Lousy Living), which has been translated into Latvian for the very first time. The reading will take place on the 26th of April 2012 at the premises of the National Library. Meeting with the director of Mansards Publishes (Jānis Oga) and the translator (Jānis Krastiņš) will also include readings from translations of other Czech authors (B. Hrabal, Z. Jirotka, O. Pavel, V. Havel) of the recent years. The literary part of the evening will be accompanied by an exhibition of graphic originals by Czech artists of the 20th century (C. Bouda, M. Florian, F. Kobliha, J. Váchal, O. Kulhánek, J. Neuwirt and others) borrowed from the library funds.
